Frank Capra’s “Mr Smith goes to Washington”, consistently named as one of the best films of 1939, stars Jimmy Stewart, Jean Arthur and Claude Rains.

An idealistic young man is appointed to fill a vacancy in the United States Senate. He discovers a world of  political bosses and corruption, but he fights the system and ultimately prevails. Nominated for 11 Academy awards, this is both a well-crafted film and an endearing classic.
