Ongoing Projects

Education

The Richard S. Shineman Foundation funded a one year grant in 2017 to hire an educator to revise and digitize the materials for education at the Oswego County Historical Society. Please check our new education menu with downloadable materials for teachers of local history. We are looking for town histories and stories, and original photos of buildings, businesses and cemeteries from every area of Oswego County.

Museum Software

The Oswego County Historical Society is digitizing its collection records with PastPerfect software. We are looking for detail-oriented, meticulous individuals to help with this.

Gardening

We are working with the Oswego Garden Club to continue the exterior landscaping project begun with an ORA Pride Grant in 2016. The Garden Club recently planted hundreds of tulip and daffodil bulbs and some hostas to begin to recreate Florence Bates’s garden on the south lawn. The Garden Club created some shade gardens on the Mohawk St. side. Plantings like the ones flanking the main doorway will be extended, and other flower beds created.

The old fence on the South Lawn needs to be replaced.

The fence behind the south lawn needs to be replaced.

The settee that is shown in Norman Bates’s 1889 photo of the family’s billiard room has been moved back to its original place, but needs complete restoration.
